Assumption

Even dogs can initially react with pain and aggression when accidentally stepped on, but they quickly recognize their owner’s soothing voice and return to a happy state. A virtuous person, like the dog, should avoid hasty judgments about others and be generous with assumptions, considering accidents, misunderstandings, or the possibility of improvement. This approach leads to a more tolerant and easygoing life. As Marcus Aurelius advises, being deliberate and accommodating in our assumptions about others brings us “calmer seas and fairer weather.”
