A sales development representative (SDR) is a sales professional who finds and qualifies potential customers at the beginning of the sales process. SDRs are responsible for the top-of-the-funnel activities, which are all the steps before a prospect is ready to buy.
Responsibilities
- Prospecting: Find new leads who match the company’s target market
- Qualifying: Determine if a prospect is likely to make a purchase
- Educating: Provide information about the company and its products
- Booking meetings: Set up meetings with qualified prospects
- Building relationships: Collaborate with marketing and account executives
- Maintaining records: Log interactions and activities with prospects and customers
- Reporting: Analyze data and provide reports
Role in the sales process
- SDRs are the first point of contact for potential customers
- SDRs pass qualified leads on to Account Executives (AEs) who close the sales
- SDRs help shorten the sales cycle by generating qualified leads
